Calvert boys' basketball opened play in 1926.  Coach Aloysius "Wishy" Kramer's career would run uninterrupted for 23 years, as he compiled a record of 139-191, making him the winningest coach in Calvert history for forty-eight years.  As the 1949-50 season approached, Calvert basketball welcomed a new coach in Karl "Zip" Zalar.  He would coach the Senecas for eight seasons, before stepping down from the post after the 1956-57 season.  The highlight of Coach Zalar's career was when his 1953 squad posted a 17-3 record, which stood for thirty-six seasons as the best in Calvert history.
Beginning his 6-season stay with the Senecas in the 1957-58 season was Coach Joe Kukoy.  He would replace Coach Zalar as head coach, and during his stay he would lead the program to an SBC co-Championship and a Sectional title (1961-62).  However, the team's league title would be erased as team was found guilty of using an ineligible player during a game.  Coach Kukoy would step down after the 1962-63 season, leaving the post to Coach Robert Leahy.  Coach Leahy would lead the program for six seasons, achieving a 12-6 record in his final season.
The 1969-70 season would welcome yet another coach to the program.  Coach Gene Nara would lead the Senecas for only one season before handing over duties to Charles Ellis for the next four seasons.  Coach Ellis would produce a Sectional Championship in 1972-73, followed by Sectional and District runner-up titles in 1973-74.  The 1974-75 Senecas would keep things rolling by capturing an SBC crown under the leadership of new coach Mike Ingram, who would remain in the program for three seasons.  This was the programs first undisputed league crown.  Two seasons later, Coach Ingram would bring home another SBC title (co-champions), followed by a Sectional Championship and District runner-up trophy.
For the 1977-78 season, Calvert would welcome a new coach in John Williams.  He would lead the Senecas for two seasons, capturing a Sectional Championship during the 1978-79 season.  Coach Tom Bridinger took over the reigns for the 1979-80 season, capturing Calvert's second Sectional title in as many years.  He would also lead the program to another Sectional crown following the 1981-82 season.  Coach Bridinger would hand his duties over after eight seasons.  His successor would be Coach Tony Mass, who would begin his 20-year coaching stay prior to the 1985-86 season.  Under Coach Mass, the program its 500th win (vs. Old Fort, 12-28-1988).  Also, during the 1988-89 season, the team accomplished a record of 22-2, capturing the MAL crown, Sectional title, 1st ever District Championship in the history of the program, and ended the season ranked 13th in the state polls.  This rates as the best record ever recorded in the history of the program.
During the 1996-97 season, Coach Mass recorded his 141st career win at Calvert, replacing Coach Kramer as the winningest coach in the program's history.  Also, under Coach Mass, the 1998-99 team took home the MAL title, along with being ranked 11th in the state polls.  The 1999-00 team kept things moving forward, recording the second straight MAL title, tying the school win total record with a 22-3 record, and captured the program's 2nd District title before ending the season in the OHSAA Regional tournament.  Following their great run, the team would finish the season as high as 3rd in the AP Poll and receive a trophy as the Toledo Blade's top Division IV team as well as Fostoria area's Team of the Year.  Coach Mass would much more success as his 2002-03 team would capture a perfect 20-0 regular season record, the first undefeated season in the program's history.  The 02-03 Senecas would finish the regular season ranked #1 in the state poll, and capture the 4th MAL title in five years.
With most of the team lost to graduation, the 2003-04 Senecas would start fresh.  They would only capture another MAL title, as well as Sectional and District Championships, and end the season with a 15-9 record.  The 2004-05 Senecas were determined to return to where they left off the prior season.  As the Senecas would only lose 3 Seniors from the previous season, the 04-05 team would repeat as League, Sectional, and District Champions.  They would make it as far as the OHSAA Regional Championship game before falling short in its bid to the program's first State birth.  Coach Mass step down from his post on a high note following the 2004-05 season after accumulating a career coaching record of 278-166.  He would end his career with 7 MAL, 9 Sectional, 4 District Championships.
The 2005-06 season would welcome a familiar face in long-time assistant and JV head coach Ted Willman.  Coach Willman would lead the Senecas to a Sectional Crown following the 2006-07 season, while capturing the program's 8th MAL title following the 2007-08 season.  Coach Willman is currently leading the Seneca program.
